Capital One Spark Cash Select
The bottom line:
The Spark Cash Select is a solid, no-fee cash-back card — but it's a starter card, not a destination. Spend under $19,000 a year and it holds its own. Spend more, and other Capital One business cards outearn it.

When Capital One brought back the Spark Cash in 2024, it instantly made the Spark Cash Select less relevant. The Spark Cash has a higher reward rate (2% vs 1.5%) and usually has a better welcome offer too. There's a small annual fee, but it's easy to offset — and Capital One waives it for the first year. If you plan to spend $19,000 or more on your card each year, the Capital One Spark Cash is the more rewarding card. (See
Need to free up cash flow or finance a larger purchase? The Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card comes with a 12-month intro APR period. It also earns 1.5% back and has no annual fee. The Ink Business Unlimited does charge a 3% foreign transaction fee, though. Keep that in mind if you buy from international suppliers.
Full review
The Capital One Spark Cash Select is a solid card. You get 1.5% cash back on purchases. There's no annual fee. And there are no foreign transaction fees — that's important if you source inventory overseas. (See
You can't go wrong with this card. But you could do better.
The Capital One Spark Cash, for example, gives you superior rewards (2%) and a better welcome offer. The tradeoff: a nominal annual fee that Capital One waives for the first year. It's the better choice for most businesses.
The Select isn't obsolete, though. It's great for seasonal businesses, side hustles and solo consultants with modest expenses. But spend more than $19,000 annually and you'll come out better with the Spark Cash in most instances.
The exception? If you’ll carry a balance from month to month.
Both cards require excellent credit — typically a personal FICO score of 720 or higher. But the Select may reward your stellar credit with a lower APR. The card’s ongoing variable APR starts at 16.74% (see
). Float a few expenses on the Spark Cash, and interest charges could easily eat up your extra rewards.
Both cards also report activity to consumer credit bureaus. Carrying a balance on either card may negatively impact your personal credit.
This card is best for:
✔️ Flat-rate cash back.
✔️ International purchases (no foreign transaction fee).
✔️ No annual fee.
✔️ Low annual spend.

Many cash-back business cards offer bonus categories that can supercharge your rewards if your business spending fits into them — or limit your rewards if it doesn't. By offering a 1.5% flat rate on all spending, the Capital One Spark Cash Select does away with such complications. That makes this card a good choice for a business whose spending is all over the map, or not concentrated in typical bonus categories like office supplies or travel.
The Capital One Spark Cash Select pays 1.5% on all purchases, even inventory orders. Put $10,000 a month in inventory spending on the card, for example, and you've got $1,800 in rewards in a year. But if you're spending that much, there are better Capital One business cards for you. More on that below.
No foreign transaction fees
Most cash-back cards slap on foreign transaction fees when you make international purchases, but this one doesn't. That's great if you buy inventory overseas and helpful if you occasionally travel abroad (frequent travelers should explore business travel cards instead). Credit card foreign transaction fees are typically 3%, which can easily wipe out the value of any rewards you earn.
That's not a concern with this card. If you spend $20,000 with a foreign supplier, you'll net $300 in cash-back rewards. Compare that to the same spending with the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card, which has a 3% foreign transaction fee. You don't just lose out on the rewards — you incur an additional $300 in expenses.

Reasons to consider a different card
You'll spend more than $19K per year on your business card
The Capital One Spark Cash Select is a great starter card, but it's easy to outgrow. Once your business spends more than $19,000 a year on the card — just under $1,600 per month — you'll come out ahead with the Capital One Spark Cash.
The Spark Cash earns 2% cash back. It has a $95 annual fee, which Capital One waives for the first year (see
Below $19,000 in annual spend, the Select's no-fee rate wins out. Above it, the Spark Cash's extra cash back outpaces the fee. And the gap only grows the more you spend.
Established companies with more than $150,000 in annual spend can skip straight to the Capital One Spark Cash Plus for the best rewards. At that spend level, Capital One waives the annual fee (see
). That leaves you with a flat 2% cash back on purchases and the biggest welcome offer of any cash-back card we evaluated in 2026.
“Earn a one-time cash bonus of $2,000 plus for a limited time, earn a $500 Capital One Business Travel credit once you spend $30,000 in the first 3 months.”
Three important things to know about the Spark Cash Plus.
It’s a charge card. You have to pay most purchases in full.
It has no preset spending limit. That’s not the same as no limit. Instead, your spending power fluctuates.
It’s one of the few Capital One business cards that won’t show up on your personal credit (unless you don’t pay the bill).
You want an intro APR period
The Capital One Spark Cash Select works best if you pay your balance in full. Sure, you can carry a balance, but it gets expensive. The Spark Cash Select ongoing interest rate is 16.74%-22.74% Variable APR.
A better fit if you need to float some purchases right away: the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card. This card has a yearlong intro APR period. It also matches the Spark Cash Select's 1.5% reward rate. And it often meets or beats the Select on sign-up bonus. The Chase Ink Business Unlimited's current welcome offer: Earn $1,000 bonus cash back after you spend $8,000 on purchases in the first 4 months from account opening.
The Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash® Card is another excellent option. You get an intro APR period and 2% cash back on purchases. Both alternatives charge foreign transaction fees (3%), though, which is something to consider if you make international purchases.
Gas and office supplies are among your top expenses
If your priority is simplicity, stick with a flat-rate card like the Capital One Spark Cash Select. But if maximizing rewards is your top aim, consider a cash-back business card that pays a higher rate in select bonus categories.
The card also has a long intro APR period for purchases and balance transfers. And you can get a $100 annual statement credit for recurring software subscriptions.
The Ink Business Cash® Credit Card is another solid option for bonus categories, especially for new businesses. It earns:
5% cash back on up to $25,000 a year in spending at office supply stores and on cable, internet and phone service.
2% cash back on up to $25,000 a year in spending at gas stations and restaurants.
1% cash back on all other spending.
You don’t have excellent personal credit
Most business credit cards require at least good personal credit — typically a FICO score of at least 690. The Capital One Spark Cash Select ups the ante to the “excellent” credit range (usually scores starting at 720).
You want business cards kept off your personal credit
Using the Spark Cash Select business card can impact your personal credit. Capital One reports all activity for that card — and a handful of other Spark cards — to consumer credit bureaus. It's the only major issuer that does this.
Why does it matter? A big purchase spikes your credit utilization ratio the moment it's reported. A high utilization ratio can drop your FICO score, even if you pay the card in full before the due date.
Other business card issuers only report negative activity — like not paying your bill for months — to consumer credit bureaus. AmEx, Chase, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo all work this way.
Capital One has a few exceptions of its own. The Spark Cash Plus and Venture X Business only report negative activity to your personal credit. The same is true for new card holders of the Capital One Venture Business (formerly the Spark Miles for Business), a Capital One spokesperson told NerdWallet.
How we evaluated the Capital One Spark Cash Select
NerdWallet's experts do the following for our business credit card reviews:
Compare the Capital One Spark Cash Select to similar cards. NerdWallet’s writers and editors base star ratings on how a card’s rewards, perks, fees and features stack up to its peers. For the Select, I paid extra attention to its value versus other Capital One cash-back business cards.
Get feedback from business owners. Our team gathers insight directly from business owners when possible. For this review, I also scanned online forums for discussion specific to the Capital One Spark Cash Select. These comments do not affect NerdWallet star ratings since we cannot confirm their accuracy.
Survey the card’s issuer. We conduct an annual survey to get details that are less available to the public, but important for business owners. These include things like spending controls, minimum credit limits and credit limit increases. I separately reached out to Capital One when updating this review to understand how the Spark Cash Select fits into their overall business card lineup given changes in recent years.
