One of the most valuable hotel loyalty programs, according to NerdWallet’s latest valuation of 1.8 cents, is World of Hyatt. While it may not be the largest hospitality company in terms of hotel locations, it has an especially rewarding elite status program (especially for Globalists), solid credit card partners and plenty of exciting points redemption options.
To make the most of World of Hyatt, you’ll need a healthy points balance. Here are nine ways to build your stash of Hyatt points.

1. Earn points through Hyatt stays
When staying with most World of Hyatt hotels, members earn 5 base points per $1 spent on eligible rates. The only exception is with Hyatt Studios stays, where the base earning rate is 2.5 points per $1 spent. Points earning is available when staying on a qualified eligible rate, which means you paid for the room rate through a Hyatt reservations channel (for example, through the hotel or via its app rather than a third-party travel agency).
Incidental charges to your room are also eligible for points earning and could include everything from food and beverage purchases to spa experiences. If you are not paying an eligible rate (or are using points for your stay), you can still earn base points for incidental charges by providing your World of Hyatt number before checking out.
The great thing about World of Hyatt is that most hotels allow you to earn points on these non-room charges—even if you’re not a guest. At participating hotels, you can earn points as a non-guest if you provide your World of Hyatt number when paying the bill.
You also earn World of Hyatt points when staying with Mr & Mrs Smith or The Venetian Resort Las Vegas.

2. Multiply your points with Hyatt elite status
While room upgrades are nice, getting bonus points for staying with Hyatt can actually fuel your next redemption at a faster pace. Here are some of the best benefits—including bonus points—of each Hyatt elite status tier.
Discoverist
Bonus point rate: 10% bonus points on eligible paid stays.
You can reach this entry-level tier by earning 25,000 base points, staying for 10 qualifying nights, or spending $25,000 in a year on qualifying events with World of Hyatt-participating hotels. Opening a World of Hyatt Credit Card also earns you automatic Discoverist status. These are some of the most rewarding of Hyatt Discoverist perks:
- Waived resort fees on award stays.
- Premium internet.
- Preferred room upgrade, based on availability, within the category you booked.
- 2 p.m. late checkout (based on availability).
Explorist
Bonus point rate: 20% bonus points on eligible paid stays.
To reach this tier, you need to stay 30 nights, earn 50,000 base points, or spend $75,000 on qualifying meetings or events at World of Hyatt-participating hotels in a year. These are some of the best Hyatt Explorist perks (in addition to the included Discoverist benefits):
- Space-available room upgrades, excluding suites and rooms with club lounge access.
- 72-hour room availability guarantee (ideal if you’re booking a last-minute reservation).
Globalist
Bonus point rate: 30% bonus points on paid eligible stays.
This is World of Hyatt’s highest elite status tier. To reach it, you must stay for 60 qualifying nights, earn 100,000 base points, or spend $150,000 in a year on qualifying meetings at a World of Hyatt-participating hotel. Other Hyatt Globalist perks, on top of the benefits listed above, include:
- Waived resort fees on paid and award stays.
- Space-available room upgrades, including standard suites.
- 4 p.m. late checkout (based on availability).
- 48-hour room availability guarantee.

4. Earn from FIND Experiences
Hyatt’s FIND Experiences platform includes activities designed around different ideas, like wellness, community or outdoor discovery. You can earn World of Hyatt points when booking activities like visiting temples in Bali or learning to make poke bowls in Hawaii. Many of these experiences are also eligible for points redemption, too.
You’ll earn 10 points per $1 spent on these FIND opportunities plus an additional 4 points when using a World of Hyatt credit card. Elite status members earn their normal bonus percentage based on their spending, too.

5. Transfer credit card points
People with credit cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards® points or Bilt Rewards points can also transfer their points to Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio.
Here's some step-by-step instructions for transferring from Chase. While Chase says it can take up to seven business days, in our experience, the Chase-to-Hyatt transfer can be much quicker, even instant. From the Chase website, select the “Transfer to Travel Partners” tab in the portal.
Look for World of Hyatt under “Hotels,” and look for “Transfer Points":
You’ll be prompted to connect your World of Hyatt account, then you’ll be able to transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards® points in 1,000-point increments.
Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are generally worth 1 cent per point if used to book travel in Chase's travel portal (unless you find a higher-value Points Boost redemption). Meanwhile, World of Hyatt points are worth about 1.8 cents each when redeemed for award stays. This means that you can score greater value when transferring points from Chase Ultimate Rewards® to World of Hyatt, but it depends on the value of your redemption and the cost of the night on which you are using your points.
To transfer Bilt Rewards to World of Hyatt, open the Bilt website or app, choose “Travel Rewards” under the “Rewards” tab. The minimum points transfer is 2,000 Bilt points, unless you have Bilt elite status, which allows you to move only 1,000 points at a time. According to Bilt, most transfers take about 48 hours, although World of Hyatt points can appear instantly.
6. Rent a car through Avis
Thanks to Hyatt and Avis’s partnership, you can earn 500 Hyatt points per car rental. To be eligible, you’ll need to:
- Provide your Hyatt membership number when making the rental.
- Use the AWD (discount) code K817700 when booking.
7. Buy Hyatt Points
While we don’t always recommend buying points speculatively, it might make sense if you are short of a few thousand points for that dream redemption.
With NerdWallet’s valuation of Hyatt points at 1.8 cents it’s not exactly a great deal, but could be better than booking a last-minute Hyatt stay if you need points quickly. There are occasional promotions where you can get a better deal when buying points, although you are limited to purchasing up to 55,000 points in a calendar year. You can also earn points by having a friend or family member share some of theirs with you.
